KUALA LUMPUR: More than 28,000 people have been evacuated due to floods natiowide this morning, a jump in numbers from the 25,000 evacuees recorded in the evening yesterday.
The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) said the biggest number of flood victims continues to be in Kelantan. It also said there were two fatalities so far , both recorded in that state on Sunday (Dec 24) and yesterday (Dec 25).
The number of states affected by floods also increased from four to six states this morning as people were evacuated in Johor and Sabah.
The official figure at 6am this morning is 28,310 victims from 8,512 families being relocated to 216 temporary relief centres in the six states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Johor and Sabah.
At the same time, the Irrigation and Drainage Department Telemetry Station has recorded water levels in two states exceeding the 'Danger' level, specifically in Kelantan and Terengganu.
In Kelantan, the rivers that have surpassed the danger levels are Sungai Kelantan in Pasir Mas (12.07m), Sungai Kelantan in Kuala Krai (26.47m), Sungai Kelantan in Machang (18.43m), Sungai Kelantan in Kota Baru (2.81m), Sungai Kelantan in Gua Musang (83.35m), Sungai Golok in Tanah Merah (26.89m), Sungai Kelantan in Kuala Krai (35.58m), and Sungai Golok in Pasir Mas (10.68m).
Three rivers in Kelantan recorded an increase in water levels since yesterday: Sungai Kelantan in Pasir Mas, Sungai Kelantan in Kota Baru, and Sungai Kelantan in Kuala Krai.
In Terengganu, the rivers in the danger level are Sungai Terengganu in Setiu (13.21m), Sungai Terengganu in Kuala Terengganu (2.09m), Sungai Terengganu in Setiu (13.79m), Sungai Kemaman in Kemaman (4.62m), and Sungai Dungun in Dungun (14.58m).
Two rivers in Terengganu recorded an increase in water level from yesterday: Sungai Kemaman in Kemaman and Sungai Dungun in Dungun.
Kelantan's temporary evacuation centres currently houses the highest number of flood victims (17,466), followed by Terengganu (10,103), Pahang (485), Sabah (169), Johor (83), and Selangor (4).
The temporary evacuation centres in Kelantan, Pahang, and Terengganu saw an increase in the number of flood victims since yesterday.
There was increase in the number of victims in two districts in Kelantan: Gua Musang and Pasir Mas. Pahang recorded an increase in one district (Kuantan), and Terengganu recorded an increase in three districts (Dungun, Kuala Terengganu, and Setiu).
