Singaporean swimmer missing, son rescued in Desaru

KOTA TINGGI: A 49-year-old Singaporean is feared drowned while swimming in Desaru waters in front of the Westin Desaru Coast Beach Resort, in Bandar Penawar here today.

The Search and Rescue (SAR) operation to locate the man is currently ongoing, at press time.

The victim identified as Isaac Kelvin Tan Lee Thong and his 16-year-old son Gabriel Tan Way Ping, had ignored the erected red flag which served as a warning against any water-related activities due to the rough sea conditions in the current monsoon season.

Gabriel Tan who encountered difficulties while swimming in the rough sea with strong waves and undercurrents were rescued by passers-by, and rushed to the Kota Tinggi Hospital in the 12.33pm incident.

Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Masri Ibrahim said the SAR operation to locate the missing man is ongoing, with 17 personnel and a boat unit.
