KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Azam Baki was already investigated by six bodies over his brother's share trading controversy and this goes against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's claim that there was no investigation on the former.
Malaysian Corruption Watch secretary-general Rosdi Amir said all these investigations found no wrongdoing on Azam's part.
"The issue was investigated by at least six internal mechanisms, independent oversight bodies and enforcement agencies.
"All investigations found no wrongdoing on his part," he said.
Yesterday, Dr Mahathir claimed that Azam, who is Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission chief commissioner, was not probed when he allowed to his brother to operate his share-trading account to buy billions of shares in 2015.
He also had accused MACC and politicians of selective prosecution.
The controversy over Azam's ownership of close to two million shares in a public listed company came to light in 2022.
However The Anti -Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) cleared Azam of any corruption or abuse of power.
ACAB was satisfied with his explanation on how the shares were acquired from the open market by his brother, Nasir Baki, who, at the time, was using Azam's shares account.
