KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim joined a congregation of Muslims today to perform the Friday prayers at the Al Firdaus Mosque in Bandar Baru Selayang near here.

Anwar was greeted by some 1,000 people when he arrived at the mosque compound at 1.15pm.

Earlier, the prime minister took time to mingle with the people and have lunch at a nearby food court.

Attempts by media members for a door-stop interview failed when the prime minister said he was rushing to the National Heart Institute (IJN).

"I want to drop by IJN," he said briefly to reporters.

It was learnt that Anwar is heading to IJN to visit a friend, who is also a well-known figure.
