KUALA LUMPUR: MACC called in the wife of Tun Daim Zainuddin, and their two sons to ascertain values of some of the assets held under companies belonging to them.
Daim's wife, Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, and sons Muhammad Amin Zainuddin and Muhammad Amir Zainuddin had their statements taken at MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya today.
"They are being called to give their statements to ascertain values of some of the high value assets domestic and abroad held under the companies belonging to them in relation to the investigation on the Former Finance Minister Tun Abdul Zaim Zainuddin," said the commission in a statement released today.
The commission said a notice was served to Daim under Section 36(1)(a) of the MACC Act 2009, on 7 June 2023 while his family members were served notices under Section 36(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
"As have been stated in the MACC press release dated 30 December 2024, investigations commenced in February last year based on information from the Pandora Papers. Investigations into the assets held by Tun Daim is on-going," said the statement.
In addition, the MACC has also recorded a statement from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to aid in the investigation relating to the usage of the RM700 million funds spent on publicity and promotion during the previous administrations today, the commision added.
Earlier, lawyers representing Tun Daim Zainuddin's family slammed the MACC for not disclosing the specific offence under investigation.
Lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan described the entire questioning as 'one giant fishing expedition', aimed at gathering information to charge Daim.
Despite posing over 50 questions to Daim's wife, Toh Puan Nai'mah Khalid, the investigators failed to inform their client of the alleged offence, they claimed.
