KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said any questions on the ringgit's performance will be addressed by the Bank Negara Malaysia governor.
"(On the) ringgit, the governor (Datuk Shaik Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour) is here," he replied briefly when asked by the media.
The ringgit today continued its weak performance against the US dollar. At 9am today, the ringgit reduced to 4.7870/7930 compared to the US dollar, from the 4.7850/7890 at closing on Monday.
The ringgit's continued decline has sparked fears that it could break the record for its worst performance, also compounded by weakening exports and strengthening of the dollar.
The ringgit it just two per cent away from reaching RM4.8850 to the US dollar, which was last seen in1998 when the Asian financial crisis affected currencies regionwide.
The local currency has fallen almost four per cent this year.
