ALOR STAR: The three dams under the Muda Agriculture Development Authority (Mada) have sufficient reserves for agriculture irrigation throughout the El Nino phenomenon which is expected to end June.
Its chairman, Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh, said the Pedu Dam, Muda Dam and Ahning Dam could irrigate Mada padi cultivation fields covering over 100,000 hectares during the dry spell.
However, he said Mada would take precautionary measures by releasing the water in stages.
"Once the irrigation for padi fields are done, we will release the water in stages to other areas that require irrigation," he said.
Dr Ismail added that Mada would deploy over 1,000 static and portable pumps to assist irrigation of padi fields.
He said the high temperature in Mada areas would have an impact on the padi plant's pollination process.
Mada recently said the water reserves of the three main dams were at 75.88 per cent for the second padi cultivation season's irrigation.
In a statement, it said the Pedu Dam had reserves at 71.71 per cent, followed by Muda Dam and Ahning Dam at 72.80 and 93.96 per cent respectively.
