Johor delegation in Shenzhen to discuss expansion of GDS investments

JOHOR BARU: A state government delegation is in Shenzhen to discuss GDS Holdings Ltd's potential future investment to their current RM14.33 billion data centres in Johor.

The delegation led by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi is in discussions with the China-based leading data centre company's representatives after it expressed interest in expanding investments in the state.

GDS had invested in Johor on two data centres in Nusajaya Tech Park (NTP) and Kempas Tech Park.

Onn Hafiz said the investmen showed GDS's confidence in Johor's capacity to become a competitive artificial intelligence (AI) hub.

He said GDS's successful business model contributed to China's position as a smart nation and digital economy powerhouse.

With the establishment of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), Onn Hafiz is optimistic that Johor will continue to attract more investors by offering lucrative investment packages.

"Johor aspires to emulate Shenzhen as a leading global investment hub," he said, adding that based on the insights gained from the meeting, he anticipates that GDS will increase its investments in Johor.

The delegation left for Shenzhen last night.
