KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry should oppose the formation of a consortium between Khazanah Nasional Berhad and the Employees Provident Fund that would see it own a stake in Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
In making this call, Machang member of parliament Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal claimed the consortium, Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), was fully owned by BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, Lockheed Martin, and all arms suppliers involved in the Palestinian crisis.
"I request commitment from Wisma Putra and government backbenchers to collectively oppose the approach made by Khazanah and EPF to sell their stake in MAHB to GIP by BlackRock.
"What is the point of us advocating at the United Nations but we then work with people who kill Palestinians," he said at the Dewan Rakyat today.
The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) said it had yet to receive any information on the matter.
"If that area falls under Wisma Putra, we will gather views from all agencies involved.
"We will conduct screening, gather recommendations and consider views from all agencies. If there is official information, we will provide input from our jurisdiction," its deputy minister, Datuk Mohamad Alamin, told the House.
Responding to Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (PH-Ledang) on whether Malaysia would support initiatives to suspend Israel's membership from international bodies such as the UN, the International Olympic Committee, Fifa and others, he said Malaysia would provide input for stronger measures, including potential membership suspensions from international bodies.
"Given their affiliation with these organisations, we will remain engaged (on global platforms), similar to what South Africa's has done in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
"We will provide feedback and views so that the ICJ takes decisive action against Israel," he said.
