SHAH ALAM: Serdang police have busted a drug distribution syndicate masterminded by a couple who was caught with 35kg worth of substances worth RM4.73 million on Saturday.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said 26.5kg of methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA), 5.4kg of ketamine, 1.3kg of heroin, 1.04kg of syabu and 548 grammes of ecstasy pills were confiscated from the couple's rented Hyundai Elentra.
"Also seized from the car were a Glock pistol, a magazine filled with 15 bullets, 17 bullets and a 'single punch machine', a tool used to process the drugs.
"The couple aged 32 and 35 are armed because if they are desperate, they will open fire. That is the trend and modus operandi of drug syndicates.
"The couple, who have been active for three months, also led investigators to their rented condominium unit where Erimin 5 pills and syabu weighing two grammes and 1.6 grammes respectively were seized from the living room," he told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters today.
Khaw said the couple have a combined 20 drug and criminal records while their urine test returned positive.
He added analysis of the seized drugs revealed it can be supplied to 106,315 users, who consume an average of 0.2 to 0.5 grammes daily.
Khaw said his men from the Serdang NCID had at 3.15am on the same day, arrested the couple at the lobby of a condominium at Puchong Jaya.
"The man is the syndicate head while his girlfriend is his assistant and they earned full profit from drug sales. They have no links to any gang.
"My men had watched them for about a month after getting the tip-off that there were activities in the unit."
Khaw added that they have also seized two Mercedes Benz, a pair of rings and cash worth a total of RM186,600 from the couple.
The couple have been remanded for seven days until May 3 to be probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Khaw said they were investigating the couple's source of drugs and where they had sold the supplies to, which may include entertainment centres.
