Young Kedah workers happy with work-life balance

ALOR STAR: Young Kedah workers are satisfied with the standard of living and work-life balance in the state due to its lower cost of living and reasonable work culture.

Professionals — including veterinarians, mechanics, teachers, lawyers and civil servants — are happy with their lives.

They attributed this to fair pay, a low cost of living and healthy work environments.

Veterinarian Dr Hazman Mustaffer, 26, found Kedah less stressful than other states, citing a supportive work culture.

"The work environment here is favourable. I get generous leave, good career growth and a good salary," said Hazman, who works in Jitra.

Hazman said although he wished for a three-day weekend, he was satisfied with his schedule, which allowed him to pursue his passion for animal healthcare.

Anas Ayub, 26, an automobile workshop manager, said he was happy with career advancement opportunities in the state's automotive industry.

He said there were no significant obstacles to younger workers seeking promotions.

"Alhamdulillah, I have been fairly promoted based on my experience and qualifications.

"I have attended courses to increase my chances for higher positions," said Anas, who works in Jitra.

Despite the physical risks at his workplace, he expressed satisfaction with workplace policies that ensured employee safety.

Sheshalini Ramesh, 28, a lawyer, acknowledged the challenges of her profession but expressed contentment with flexibility at her workplace.

"The friendly working environment allows employees to work without stress. These initiatives should be encouraged in other fields," she added.

Ahmad Ikhtidar Ikhsan Jamili, 25, an English teacher from Langkawi, said: "In general, the pay for teachers in Kedah is fair.

"The cost of living here is low. It could be better, but I'm very happy with my job."

Anas Fitri Ahmad, 26, a financial analyst, supported the idea of a three-day weekend, believing it could boost productivity and address workplace stress.

However, he advocated for its gradual implementation.

Civil servant Mohammad Nasrun Faiz Mat Saad, 28, expressed happiness with the announcement of a more than 13 per cent salary hike by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"I'm happy with my pay. The announcement is a huge morale boost considering the increased cost of living.

"Life in Kedah is, Insyaallah, comfortable.".

The salary increase is effective from Dec 1.
