KK Mart boycott against teachings of Prophet Muhammad  - Perak Mufti

IPOH: Perak Mufti Datuk Seri Wan Zahidi Wan Teh has urged Muslims to stop their boycott of convenience store chain KK Super Mart & Superstore Sdn Bhd as the action strays far from the foundation of universal Islamic justice.

He said there was no justification for the company's business premises to be boycotted as the accusations of insulting Islam that were leveled against the company's management were not proven.

He emphasised that based on Islamic judicial methods, one of the important pillars is the intention and desire or "alqasdul jinaei" (criminal intent), which cannot be proven through "shahadah" or direct evidence.

Wan Zahidi said this can only be proven by confession or through circumstancial evidence  or "garainul ahwal" .

He said the act of boycotting a race was also against the teachings of the Prophet, where in the early history of Islam, only the Quraysh infidels boycotted the Muslims, but the Prophet never boycotted anyone, even the enemy.

"From the explanation made by the management of KK Mart and the public apology over the incident as well as the explanation made to the Islamic Development Department (Jakim), the existence of this pillar of alqasdul jinaein cannot be proven.

"Thus, based on Islamic judicial methods, the accusation that the management of KK Mart have insulted Islam have not been proven," he said in a press conference at the Perak Mufti Department office, here today.

Wan Zahidi said the KK Mart issue was sensationalised by fueling the sentiments of hatred and anger, straying far from the foundation of universal Islamic justice, thus contradicting the actions of the Prophet who had formed the Charter of Madinah which governs relations between various ethnic groups in Madinah.

"The Charter of Madinah governs the rights and responsibilities between Muslims and non-Muslims, stating that non-Muslims form an 'ummah' together with Muslims and themselves and their property are protected in the same way as the property of Muslims.

"Islamic dakwah (preaching) requires an atmosphere of calm and peace as well as harmonious relations between people who follow various religions. The Quran gives guidance to Muslims to use a wise approach and good speech in their dakwah mission.

"Prophet Muhammad reminded preachers to always spread things that reflect hope and not to raise issues that could lead to discord (basysyiru wala tunaffiru)," he added.
