Palestine ambassador to Malaysia applauds UN vote for full membership

KUALA LUMPUR: Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia, Walid Abu Ali said the United Nations General Assembly's Resolution to call upon the UN Security Council to consider granting Palestine full membership to the UN as a significant moment demonstrating awareness and solidarity for his people.

This pivotal occasion coincided with World Keffiyeh Day - a global movement to bring awareness and show solidarity with the Palestinian cause and struggle which is celebrated on May 11.

"Today while our Palestinian people continue suffering and the genocide continued by the Israeli criminal government, we can say that it's our Keffiyeh day.

"Our Palestinian flag will be treated equally at the UN, thanks to all those who believe on democracy," he told the New Straits Times.

The UNGA on Friday voted in support of a Palestinian bid for full membership of the world body, a symbolic move after the United States vetoed the measure in the Security Council.

The resolution, which states that the Palestine should be admitted to the UN and grants them some additional rights as observers, received 143 votes for, nine against and 25 abstentions.
