KUALA LUMPUR: It is a "triple happiness" celebration for the unity government tonight as two parties are celebrating their anniversaries while anticipating their victory in the Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election.
At the onset of the PKR 25th anniversary celebration, its information chief Fahmi Fadzil said the two other celebrations are Umno's 78th anniversary and the unity government candidate Pang Sock Tao's win in KKB.
"It is an exciting night not only for PKR who's celebrating its 25th anniversary. We had to delay our celebration because our anniversary falls on Ramadan, but what's good is that we are able to celebrate it with Umno's 78th anniversary tonight.
"And if God Willing, and we'll end up with victory for our KKB's candidate, then it is a triple happiness," he said to reporters at the sidelines of the anniversary celebration.
As of press time, Pang has obtained enough votes, slightly above the simple majority needed for her to secure the seat.
Fahmi who is also Communications Minister admitted that PKR has yet to be able to implement its intended reforms after being appointed as government.
He said in implementing reforms, one should not be in a rush.
"As the prime minister had said, reforms cannot be implemented hastily or in a rush. Some plans need time.
"We must have a solid foundation, whether it is a strong economic foundation, we must manage those fundamental aspects first, and God willing, it will proceed smoothly," he said.
Fahmi added that in order to attract more young people to the party, it would need to implement more younger-centric programmes.
This also includes policies that is aligned with the wishes of the younger generation.
Also in attendance was PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli, PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar, PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, PKR advisory council chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil.
GPS senior leader Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, former education minister Prof Dr Maszlee Malik and Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia Walid Abu Ali were also in attendance.
