KKB by-election: Win proof of strong cooperation among parties in unity govt, says Zahid [Updated]

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan's victory in defending the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election is proof of the strong cooperation among parties in the unity government, said Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid, who is Umno president, said it managed to win the seat despite the UmDAP label thrown by detractors.

"This success is evident that if we have high resilience, the unity government will remain strong despite whatever ever being thrown by our political enemies.

"This must be strengthened, I've previously mentioned that DAP leadership have helped BN candidates in the past by-elections a lot and it's not wrong for us to return the favour," he told reporters after attending Umno 78th anniversary celebration held at World Trade Centre here.

Zahid in his speech earlier urged party leader to make use of social media platforms in answering slanders and criticism levelled against it, as well as championing the people's narratives.

Reflecting on the results of the 14th and 15th general elections, he said they revealed the true faces of those who abandoned the party in trying times despite their pledge to remain loyal to the party.

"Some fled when confronted with defeat, some betrayed under threat from enemies, while others pursued positions, mirroring the test Umno faced."

PH's Pang Sock Tao won with a majority of 3,869 votes, defeating Perikatan Nasional's Khairul Azhari Saut who gained 10,131 votes while Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Hafizah Zainuddin secured 152 votes and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin secured 188.
