Number of flash flood victims in Kuala Muda increases

KUALA MUDA: The number of flood victims in the Kuala Muda district has increased to 18 people from nine families this evening compared to six families earlier today.

Kuala Muda Civil Defence Force officer Azahar Ahmad said that three additional households in Kampung Jerung, Sidam Kiri, have been affected by the flash floods.

"The water level has risen to between 0.3 meters and 0.5 meters deep. However, no temporary flood relief centre (PPS) has been activated yet," he said in a statement today.

Azahar said that all flood victims have been advised to relocate to nearby PPS if conditions worsen.

"For now, the situation is under control, and there are no reports of injuries. The rainfall has subsided, and the current status is that the floodwaters have fully receded," he added.

Earlier today, heavy rainfall caused flash flooding, affecting six houses in the Kuala Muda District.

The flash flood, which occurred at 10.10 am, impacted three homes in Kampung Jerung, Sidam Kiri, and three others in Kampung Haji Wahab, Sungai Petani.
