Sabah GLC produces Kaamatan short film

KOTA KINABALU: Jetama Sdn Bhd, a Sabah government-linked company, has produced a short film in conjunction with the 2024 Kaamatan Festival celebration.

This is the first film produced by a GLC under the Sabah Finance Ministry.

Its chief executive officer, Ahmad Naim Uddang, said the film titled "Hero Kaamatan Ku" was uploaded on Jetama's YouTube channel on May 26.

"The nearly five-minute-long film is based on the themes of sacrifice, family spirit and family heritage.

"It tells the story of a young child who becomes sad because his life suddenly becomes difficult after moving to the village.

"This situation arises because his father decided to quit working in the city to take over the legacy of his ageing mother, working on their inherited rice field.

"However, the child eventually realises his father's sacrifice when he grows up," he shared.

Naim added that the film was shot in several locations around Kampung Sagkir, Kota Belud, and also Mari-Mari Cultural Village.

It took almost two weeks to complete and edit.

"We hope this short film will capture the hearts of the audience and indirectly highlight the theme of this year's Kaamatan Festival, which is 'Kaamatan, Beyond Food Security,' or in the Kadazan-Dusun language, 'Kaamatan, Poingalib Kohimaganan Taakanon.

"To enliven this year's Kaamatan Festival celebration, Jetama also provided a cash prize of RM20,000 to 20 lucky viewers who share the YouTube link https://youtu.be/cTwty_gay6M?feature=shared on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok and write a short sentence starting with 'I love this video because...' accompanied by the hashtags #KaamatanJetama2024 and #Jetama."

"They also need to share the video link on their social media starting May 26, and the closing date for participation is June 1, at 6pm," he said.

The film was produced by general manager (environment, social, and governance) Ag Ahmad Zaki Abu Bakar and featured local actors, including Rafa Rasendrya's younger brother Roger as the son, Roger Jenoas the father, Winih Kimin as the grandmother, and Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan 2023, Carol Abbey Gail Grimaldi, as the grown-up child.
