Fahmi to discuss the matter of 200 'online ambassadors' with Nga

KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he will look into concerns brought by former housing and local government minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin on the 200 "online ambassadors" under the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT).

Regarding the move by KPKT to establish a team of 'online ambassadors' to deliver information and ward off slander in cyberspace, Fahmi said his ministry is not against the effort.

"I do not see that the establishment will create cross-jurisdictional issue with other parties but coordination in terms of the information to be conveyed must be done.

"God willing, I will look into this matter with the minister (Nga Kor Ming) because I have not had the opportunity to get a full briefing from KPKT regarding the effort," he said.

On Thursday, Nga announced the establishment of a team of 'online ambassadors' consisting of 200 ministry staff to fend off defamation and deliver authentic information and government policies effectively.

He said the online ambassador scheme does not involve additional costs.

"The online ambassadors, or key opinion leaders, are volunteers from departments and agencies under the ministry's supervision.

"They seek to disseminate clear messages to the public about programmes, products and services offered by the ministry and its agencies," said Nga.
