Six injured in Lahad Datu express bus accident

LAHAD DATU: Six passengers, including the driver, were injured when an express bus skidded off the road and plunged into a 50-metre-deep ravine at Batu 9, Jalan Silam, here last night.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre officer Riki Mohan Singh Ramday said all victims were successfully extracted by the fire department team at the scene.

"All injured victims were handed over to the Health Ministry and given initial treatment at the scene.

"Subsequently, all victims were transported to the hospital by ambulance and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicles for further treatment," he said.

He said a team of firefighters, led by Senior Fire Officer II Suait Mohammad, along with machinery from the Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station, was dispatched to the scene.

"According to the report, the accident involved an express bus that lost control and fell into a 50-metre-deep ravine.

"Upon arrival at the scene, 13 passengers, including two foreign tourists, had already exited the bus on their own."

He added that after ensuring no further danger at the scene, the operation concluded at 11.30pm.

Earlier, it was reported that an express bus skidded and plunged into a ravine at Batu 9, Jalan Silam, here last night.

A spokesman for the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said they received a call about the incident at 9.24 pm.
