NIBONG TEBAL: Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang believes various national issues will help them win voters' support in the Sungai Bakap by-election.
He said, besides the strength of their candidate, Abidin Ismail, the many issues might tip the seat in their favour.
"Insya Allah, we have the late Pas' assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff's past performance to prove, to help us get the support.
"Our candidate is also the special assistant of the late Nor Zambri and will continue his good work.
"And with the many issues at the national level plaguing the people, we believe it can help us in this by-election," he told newsmen after the nomination day process.
The by-election for the Sungai Bakap state seat in Penang will see a straight fight between Pakatan Harapan's Dr Joohari Ariffin and Perikatan Nasional's Abidin.
In the 2023 state polls, the late Nor Zamri won the Sungai Bakap state seat for PN against PKR's Nurhidayah Che Rus with a 1,563 vote-majority.
Meanwhile, PN election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said they had advised their supporters and election workers to campaign in the most civil manner, abiding by all the rules set.
He said this would retain the unity in the Sungai Bakap state seat, where the by-election is being held.
"This is our promise.
"We will not resort to any provocation and will not entertain any provocation.
"We want this by-election to run in peace and harmony," he added.
Sanusi said the voters already know who to vote in as their elected representative.
"It must be PN. This is because our candidate does not support the increase in fuel.
"Our candidate is a candidate for the people," he said.
