TAWAU: A building at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Abaka near here was destroyed in a fire late last night.
It is learned that the incident, which occurred at around midnight, destroyed the building housing the year two classrooms.
District Fire and Rescue Station chief Jemishin Ujin said his team received a call about the incident at 12.06am, after which a team of 28 members was dispatched to the scene.
"Upon arrival, it was found that a non-permanent school block was completely engulfed in flames. The firefighting operation used water from the fire engine's tank, and the fire was brought under control 50 minutes later," he said in a statement this morning.
Jemishin said that the fire was completely extinguished by 1.23am, and no casualties were reported.
He added that the cause of the incident and the amount of loss are still under investigation.
