PUTRAJAYA: The government has set up a committee to discuss the terms and conditions of Bestinet Sdn Bhd's (Bestinet) contract for another three years.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the committee will be headed by the chief secretary to the government and will discuss the terms and conditions of companies that introduce security technology for the centralised management system of foreign workers.
"The contract has been finalised and given a decision by the Cabinet a few weeks ago. So the government has set up a committee led by the chief secretary and in it are the Home Ministry, Human Resources Ministry and the Attorney General's Chambers.
"This committee will discuss the terms of the contract starting from the decision to extend it in principle that has already been made in addition to entering into discussion process with the company," he told a press conference here today.
He said this in response to a question regarding Bestinet's contract extension.
Bestinet had a six-year contract with the Home Ministry to develop, supply, provide and maintain the foreign workers centralised management system.
The contract ended on May 31, 2024.
It was also revealed in the 2022 Auditor-General's Report that there was no signed agreement between the government and Bestinet.
This meant that the government's rights were unclear on the matter.
