Genting Highlands' history of deadly bus crashes over 30 years

BENTONG: Over the years, several deadly bus accidents have been reported along the Genting Highlands stretch with the worst reported in 2013 when 37 people died after their bus plunged into a ravine while travelling downhill.

The following is a compilation of the bus crashes along the Genting Highlands stretch.

June 29, 2024: Two Chinese nationals were killed while 19 others were injured after a tour bus landed on its side at Km16.5 of Jalan Genting-Bentong.

July 28, 2016 : A bus driver was killed and 15 passengers were injured in an accident at Km17.3 of Jalan Genting Highlands.

Aug 21, 2013 : 37 people died when a bus with 53 passengers plunged into a ravine on the way downhill from Genting Highlands.

Oct 29, 2010 : Seven people were killed and 20 were injured when the bus they were travelling in crashed at Genting Sempah.

Nov 20, 2006 : Three officers of Provincial Electricity Authority of Thailand (PEA)were killed and 14 seriously injured when their double-decker bus overturned at KM13 of Jalan Genting Highlands-Batang Kali.

Dec 10, 2001: Two passengers were killed and one injured when an express bus crashed at the Genting Highlands hill resort.

Nov 14, 1999 : A 12-year-old Singaporean boy died while six others were injured when the bus they were travelling in fell into a ravine at Jalan Genting-Genting Sempah.

Dec 31, 1996 : 27 people were injured with three in serious condition after their bus plunged into a ravine at the Km4 Jalan Genting Highlands-Kuala Lumpur.

July 15, 1996: 17 people including children were killed and 15 injured when a tour bus went off the road at Km1, Jalan Genting Highlands.
