Sg Bakap polls: Joohari banking on 'unity' promises to win

NIBONG TEBAL: Upgraded infrastructure, free tuition, poverty elimination and a resolution to citizenship issues in Sungai Bakap are among Dr Joohari Ariffin's key manifesto promises ahead of the by-election for the state seat.

Underpinning his "perPADUan" (unity) manifesto unveiled tonight is the promise of fairness towards all constituents.

The manifesto comprises four pillars, with the first being "Prasarana & Progresif" (Infrastructure and Progress).

Under that pillar, Joohari vows to ensure the completion of water and road infrastructure including the Sungai Kerian water treatment plant, the Perak-Penang water project and a connecting road to Bandar Tasek Mutiara.

He will also push for an upgrade of the maternity and geriatric ward at the Sungai Bakap Hospital, and establish a senior citizen activity centre.

Joohari also plans to turn Sungai Bakap into a micro-halal production hub.

The second pillar, "Akademik & Anak Muda" (Education and Youth), includes plans to provide free tuition for SPM students and establish a People's Tuition Centre.

He also wants to bring STEM, TVET and AI programmes to Sungai Bakap.

Joohari said he will also push for more sporting facilities and the upgrading of existing facilities in the constituency.

For youths who have graduated, efforts to boost job placement will be rolled out.

The "Damai & Dedikasi" (Peace and Dedication) pillar touches on Joohari's plans to strengthen harmony and the familial institution through inclusive initiatives.

This includes poverty eradication, an Islamic taska and a Unity taska, resolving citizenship issues, supporting mosque and surau activities and the conservation of non-Muslim houses of worship.

The final pillar, "Untuk Semua" (For All) refers to Joohari's commitment to giving all constituents, regardless of race, religion or political inclination, fair and equal treatment.

At the same time, he also wants to ensure no one is left behind including women, children and the elderly.

Others at the launch of the manifesto include PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli and Penang PH chief Chow Kon Yeow.

In the July 6 by-election, Joohari will take on Perikatan Nasional's Abidin Ismail in a straight fight.

The by-election is being held following the death of assemblyman, Nor Zamri Latiff from Pas.
