PUTRAJAYA: The government will make every effort to ensure Malaysia continues to rank highly in the Global Peace Index (GPI), which plays a crucial role in attracting investors.
The home minister said a good position on the GPI is important because security is a key consideration for investors.
"In the Asia-Pacific, Malaysia is at third place, behind Singapore and New Zealand, and we are in second place in Asean.
"We aspire to retain this Top 10 position. The police and other stakeholders will scrutinise all indicators that contribute to the index," Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said after Larian Hari Polis 2024: Community Safety Run here today.
Present at the event was Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
"Why is it important to pay attention to the GPI? Because investors look at the ranking and commit to a country that can offer assurance of safety and public order."
Malaysia had climbed nine spots to No. 10 in the 2024 GPI.
Singapore ranked 5th, Indonesia was 48th and Laos, 49th.
The GPI is compiled by the Institute for Economics and Peace, a global think tank.
