KUALA LUMPUR: The Merdeka Foodie run will be held for the second time on Aug 18 as a run-up event to Independence Day.
Its deputy president John Chai said the event encouraged everyone to participate in sports and strengthen their relationship with each other.
"Following the success of last year's Foodie Run, the Youth Entrepreneurs Committee has decided to continue this initiative.
"From more than 2,300 participants last year, we are aiming for 5,000 this year, including families," he said today at Wisma Chinese Chamber in Ampang.
He said the event would feature two race distances: a 5km and 10km track, with categories for juniors, open participants and veterans.
"In this second edition, we have also created a family category, where both parents can register with two children aged 16 and below," he said.
Additionally, local delicacies, such as nasi lemak, apam balik, kuih nyonya and many more, would be served after the run.
He expressed confidence that this year's event, in collaboration with the National Unity Committee, would be a significant success and establish itself as an annual flagship event.
He also extended his gratitude to National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang for his willingness to attend the event as the guest of honour.
"Many thanks to Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, as he will be gracing us as the guest-of-honour for the day," he said.
