Anwar condemns Trump shooting

SERDANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has condemned the shooting on Donald Trump during the start of a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, United States, today.

Anwar said he hoped the situation was under control.

He said violence is not the answer, even when one is against a political figure.

"Whatever our stance towards any figure, this is not the way to resolve issues, and therefore, we express sympathy towards Trump and hope the situation remains under control," he said briefly to reporters after the National Felda Settlers' Day 2024 celebration launch at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps), here today.

Earlier today, Trump, who is a former United States president, was rushed off stage by Secret Service agents after a series of gunshots.

Trump was seen with blood on his right ear as he was surrounded by security agents, who rushed him off the stage as he pumped his fist to the crowd.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is calling the shooting an assassination attempt on Trump, saying it was not prepared to identify the shooter and did not have a motive for the incident that left one person dead and two injured.

It also said that there was no existing treat after the shooting.

On another matter, Anwar reiterated that Malaysia condemned the continuous attack and violence by the Israeli regime on Palestine.

"Malaysia once again expresses our stance that we vehemently condemn the continuous inhumane violence by the Israeli regime," he said.

Earlier today, Wisma Putra condemned the relentless attacks by Israel on Palestinians, including the airstrike carried out on the al-Mawasi refugee camp on Saturday.

In a statement, it said the airstrike took place inside an area designated by Israel itself as a safe zone for Palestinians, resulting in the loss of many innocent Palestinian lives, including women and children, and injuring hundreds of others.
