KUALA LUMPUR: The precondition for opposition members to negotiate as a group through a representative is new and inconsistent, said Muar member of parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
"I am the only Muda representative in parliament but I still have to go through the leader of the opposition", he said in an interview by Utusan Malaysia.
Saddiq recently completed his 200km run from Muar to parliament to protest the lack of allocation for opposition MPs and raised RM160,000.
This was after he left the government bloc to be a 'third force' in parliament, voting in support of constitutional and institutional reforms, but are nevertheless independent.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim continues to reiterate in parliament for the opposition to negotiate for allocation, saying that it is "not difficult".
The Muar MP retorted Anwar's advice for the process to be in the same vein as the one that occurred under Bera MP and former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, stating that such a laborious process did not exist then.
"During Bera's government, I met with Ismail personally and I will not forget it. He was very open and I asked if I can sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
"After meeting him and negotiating personally, Ismail approved it, which is why different allocations were approved at different times", he said.
Ismail became prime minister on Aug 21, 2021, after the collapse of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's government.
The Muar MP lamented the lack of transparency when negotiating with Anwar's government, even when he is ready to do what it takes to receive allocations.
"If they tell me what the conditions are, I will abide as long as it is constitutional and does not affect my constituents negatively. I have no problems but these are never shared," he said.
Regardless, Saddiq continues his efforts.
"I want to use the right way. I will send another letter to the prime minister to beg for his humanity to aid the needy of my parliamentary constituency," he said.
