Police to close 14 roads around Istana Negara in stages for 17th King's installation ceremony

KUALA LUMPUR: Major roads around the Istana Negara will be closed for the installation ceremony of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the 17th King of Malaysia on Saturday.

City police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said a total of 14 routes will be closed in stages on Saturday.

"A total 387 rank and file personnel and officers will be deployed for escorting dignitaries and controlling traffic.

"The 14 roads affected will be closed in stages between 8am and 8pm for the installation ceremony and royal banquet," he said in a statement today.

He said the road closures would be done to facilitate the movements of royal guests.

"The affected roads are Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Kia Peng, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim, Jalan Semantan, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Istana, Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway, Jalan Kuching (south bound), Bulatan Dato Onn and Jalan Parlimen.

"Motorists are advised to use alternate routes on the day to avoid traffic congestion," he said.

Rusdi advised motorists to follow the instructions of police personnel at the affected locations.
