Form 6 student dies in accident on way to school in Baling [WATCH]

BALING: A student on her way to school on a motorcycle died in an accident involving another motorcyclist and a car near the Baling-Weng-Tanjung Pari trunk road in Kampung Bongor 3 here today.

In the 7.45am incident, the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Baling Form Six student was heading to school on her motorcycle when she collided with another motorcyclist on a Modena Kriss and a motorist driving a Perodua Myvi.

The student, identified as Siti Umairah Alias, sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.

Baling police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mamat said the accident likely occurred due to the motorcyclist, who changed direction suddenly, leading to the accident.

"The deceased was riding from her home in Kampung Bandar on her way to the school in Baling.

"The Modenas Kriss rider was coming from the same direction, while the driver of a Perodua Myvi was coming from the opposite direction.

"The deceased was unable to avoid the collision, leading to a side impact with the Modenas Kriss and a head-on collision with the Perodua Myvi in the opposite lane," he said in a statement today.

Shamsudin said that the other motorcyclist, an Indonesian, sustained minor injuries.

"The Indonesian national did not have a motorcycle licence, while the Perodua Myvi driver was unharmed."

He said that the deceased's body was sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star for a post-mortem.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"All the vehicles have been seized for further inspection. The Indonesian national tested negative for drugs and has been detained."
