Rain and thunderstorms to drench Kedah until Aug 4

ALOR STAR: Several areas across the state will experience consistent rain and thunderstorms throughout the week until Aug 4, following a lengthy dry spell.

Kedah Malaysia Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director Muhammad Khalil Abd Aziz said that morning showers would be accompanied by evening rain and thunderstorms in several areas.

"The country will experience generally damp weather. Thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and may continue until early morning, especially in the north and east coast of the Peninsula, Sabah, and Sarawak throughout the forecast period," he said when contacted today.

He also warned that thunderstorms would persist in northern coastal regions and at sea throughout the period.

Kedah has experienced mixed weather patterns over the past week, with minimal inland rainfall while stormy weather at sea has disrupted ferry operations.

Yesterday, it was reported that bad weather caused waves up to four metres high, halting ferry trips between Kuala Kedah and Pulau Langkawi, leaving 1,926 ferry passengers stranded.

Meanwhile, checks with the National Water Services Commission war room portal showed that the water reserve in Muda Dam remained at a danger level with 8.56 per cent of remaining storage, slipping further from 10.40 per cent recorded on Saturday.
