Pas leaders condemn Ismail Haniyeh's death, offer prayers for his family

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has strongly condemned the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the chairman of the Hamas Political Bureau, following his death in Tehran.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, he condemned the Israeli attack that led to Haniyeh's death, quoting a verse from the Quran (Al-Ahzab) that praises those who defend Islam.

He expressed deep sorrow over the loss, saying, "Pas condemns Israel's attack that resulted in the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards. We extend our condolences to his family and pray that Allah grants them the reward of martyrdom."

Pas deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also offered his condolences, sharing a tribute on Facebook.

His post included Quranic verses from Al-Ahzab and Ali-'Imran, reflecting on the sacrifice of those who die in religious struggle.

"The promise of Allah is indeed certain," he wrote.

Pas information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari echoed the sentiment, describing Haniyeh's death as a significant blow to the Palestinian cause.

"If true, this is deeply saddening news for the Muslim ummah and supporters of the Palestinian struggle," he said, sharing a report from Middle East Eye.

Hamas has declared a period of mourning following Haniyeh's assassination at his residence in Tehran.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards have confirmed Haniyeh's death and are currently investigating the incident.

Haniyeh, who was typically based in Qatar, had recently been involved in international diplomacy for Hamas amid the ongoing conflict with Israel.
