KUALA LUMPUR: Meta must explain why a post of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's meeting with Hamas leader on Instagram in May was taken down.
The Prime Minister's Office, through its media and strategic communications department, raised the question to Instagram platform provider, Meta in a post on Anwar's official social media page.
"We condemned the actions of the Instagram platform provider, Meta, which took down the post of Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim meeting with the leader of Hamas in Doha, Qatar, last May.
"This action clearly shows discrimination against the situation in Palestine and the country's leaders," it said, after a post Anwar posted in May about his meeting with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was removed from the platform.
Anwar was on a working trip to Qatar when he met with Ismail to convey his condolences over the loss of several of his family members killed in an air strike by the Israeli regime a month earlier.
It is learnt that the department had found out about the removal following the passing of Ismail, today.
"We demand an explanation and urge Meta to apologise regarding this matter," it said.
