KUALA TERENGGANU: A total of 1,080 childcare centres (taska) nationwide are awaiting approval to begin operations.
Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said for a taska to be approved for operations by the ministry, it must be certified safe by three other agencies first.
These agencies are the Fire and Rescue Department, the Health Ministry and the local authority where the taska is located.
"We (ministry) are still awaiting the reports from the three agencies (for the 1,080 taska centres)," she said on the sidelines of the National Taska and Child Caregiver Day closing ceremony.
Noraini, the Parit Sulong member of Parliament also said there are currently 3,043 registered taska centres nationwide.
These centres employ 16,167 child caregivers and look after 70,340 children.
