Private sector must follow new wage standards, says Rafizi

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has set a minimum wage that private sector employers must adhere to under the Progressive Wage Policy, said Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli.

He said employers who increase salaries to comply with these wage scales would be eligible for the progressive wage incentive, which would be paid to employees with the salary increase funded by the government.

"Starting salaries under the Progressive Wage Policy for various qualifications are as follows: mechanical engineers at RM3,380, civil engineers at RM3,115, accountants and auditors at RM3,280," he said in a post on X yesterday.

Rafizi added that the starting salary for astrologers is RM2,205, while civil engineering technicians will receive RM2,470.

He said the complete list of starting salaries under the Progressive Wage Policy is available for download from the Basic Starting Salary and Annual Increment Guide at https://gajiprogresif.gov.my/.
