Rising cyber threats linked to Malaysia's Palestine support

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has been receiving frequent cyber attacks against its defence systems in light of its unwavering support for the liberation of Palestine.

The Malaysian Armed Forces' Defence Cyber and Electromagnetic Division director-general Rear Admiral Datuk Mohd Fadzli Kamal Mohd Mohaldin said such attacks were becoming frequent as certain nations continued to voice out their stance on international issues.

He, however, said that the military was prepared to tackle any cyber attacks against the nation's defence system.

"When our country expresses support on international issues, there will be certain parties who will be dissatisfied (with us).

"These cyber attacks are sometimes carried out by certain individuals for personal reasons and they will disguise themselves as being pro-Israel or in support of other countries that disagree with Malaysia's stance," he said in an exclusive interview with New Straits Times Press.

Malaysia has continuously expressed its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, despite Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed receiving alleged threats from Western parliamentarians over the country's stance on the Palestine-Israel conflict.

The government also held a Palestine solidarity rally which was aimed at sending Malaysia's strong and clear signal condemning the murder of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, last week.

It was the second time the rally was held, with the first one held in October last year.
