PUTRAJAYA: The cabinet has not discussed revisiting the decision to lift the ban on comic book titled 'Belt and Road Initiative for Win-Winism,' authored by former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said he could not provide further comment on the matter as it had not yet been discussed at the cabinet level.
"We have not yet discussed this issue in the cabinet, so I cannot add any further comments," he said a ceremony for the handing over of sponsorship by the ministry's strategic partners for the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
He said this when asked whether the government would reconsider the decision to lift the ban on the comic book by Hew, who is also known as Superman Hew.
On Tuesday, the Home Ministry lifted the ban that was initially placed in October 2019 for promoting communism and socialism.
On Dec 8, 2022, Putrajaya failed to get leave from the Federal Court to reinstate a ban on the comic book.
In response to the lifting of the ban, Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi had said the party must object to the Home Ministry's decision, while its Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh had urged the government to seek a review of the apex court's decision denying Putrajaya leave to appeal against a Court of Appeal ruling that overturned the ban on the book.
