NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was given an official welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi as part of his three-day official visit to India.

He arrived at the President's Palace at 9am and was greeted by his Indian counterpart, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The national anthem was played before Modi was introduced to the country's cabinet ministers.

Anwar then laid a wreath at Gandhi Smriti, Raj Ghat, at the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, who was interred there on Jan 31, 1948.

He is scheduled to meet with India's Foreign Minister and will later have a bilateral meeting with Modi.

Anwar arrived in the Indian capital on Monday for a three-day official visit to strengthen the 67-year-old India-Malaysia ties and establish a multi-sectoral cooperation agenda for the future.

The special aircraft carrying him touched down at the Palam air force station at 9.47pm local time (12.17am Malaysia).
