PUTRAJAYA: All ministries have been instructed to enhance monitoring at various levels to prevent a rise in the prices of goods following the recent announcement of salary adjustments for civil servants.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said this was decided during a cabinet meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today.
Fahmi, who is also the government spokesperson, said that cabinet members would also be visiting their respective areas or other necessary locations to conduct monitoring.
"There is a need to ensure that enforcement efforts are intensified to prevent price increases, particularly for food in restaurants.
"A specific reminder has been given to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, but other ministries have also been asked to increase their monitoring efforts," he said during a press conference.
Last Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a 15 per cent salary adjustment for the civil servants.
This follows a salary review of civil servants under the new Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA).
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, added that civil servants in top management and professional roles will see an increase of seven per cent.
The increment, he said, will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase in December this year and the second phase in January 2026.
