Navy vessel KD Pendekar stranded after leak

KUALA LUMPUR: A Royal Malaysian Navy craft has been stranded off the coast of southeast Johor today.

It is learnt that the fast attack craft (FAC), KD Pendekar suffered a leak in waters off Tanjung Penyusup, near Pengerang Johor.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, when contacted confirmed the matter.

"Yes, the Royal Malaysian Navy will issue a statement (regarding KD Pendekar)," he told the New Straits Times.

The ship's crew have been evacuated as a safety measure.

It is also understood that KD Pendekar is now being moored to a nearby merchant ship.

The Johor Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has deployed assets to assist in the operation.

However, no search and rescue efforts were launched.

KD Pendekar is a Handalan-class vessel commissioned on Aug 21, 1979.
