Fahmi: SAR for sinkhole victim to continue

PUTRAJAYA: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for an Indian tourist who fell into a sinkhole at Jalan Masjid India last Friday will persist until an official decision to halt it is made, says Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the matter was conveyed during the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today.

"On the duration of the SAR operation, no decision has been made on whether it will be halted. Therefore, as long as there is no announcement of its cessation, the SAR operation will continue," he said at his weekly press conference today.

Fahmi said the cabinet was informed that as of this morning, the victim had not yet been found.

During the meeting, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa said that several manholes near the incident site were being inspected, including those at the Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) sewage plant.

The sinkhole, which appeared on Friday, caused the woman to fall into the pit.

Rescuers found a pair of slippers belonging to her near the location.
