Cuepacs wants role in new civil service reform secretariat

KUALA LUMPUR: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) is calling for involvement in the newly announced secretariat tasked with addressing administrative issues and managing government expenses.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the set-up of a secretariat as part of a broader civil service reform initiative.

Cuepacs president Datuk Adnan Mat emphasised the importance of prioritising staff welfare alongside service rationalisation efforts.

"While the secretariat's establishment is crucial for streamlining services, existing staff well-being must also be a priority," he said.

"Union representatives can ensure staff perspectives are considered before any decisions are implemented."

Adnan further urged all public servants to heed the prime minister's call for improved service delivery.

He emphasised cooperation between department heads, the Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN), Datuk Seri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and the Public Services director-general (KPPA) Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

"This collaboration is crucial for planning the reform framework and ensuring the success of initiatives aimed at improving public service."

Cuepacs believes cooperation of all levels of public servants, especially department heads, will significantly bolster the KSN and KPPA's efforts in planning the reform framework," he said.
