KUANTAN: The Pahang legislative assembly sitting at Wisma Sri Pahang today is set to make history with the appointment of five people, including a non-politician, as state assemblymen.
The five are Pahang Amanah chairman Mohd Fadzli Mohd Ramly, Pahang PKR deputy chairman Rizal Jamin, Temerloh MCA division chief Datuk Wong Tat Chee, Jerantut Umno division chief Haris Salleh Hamzah and Tengku Ampuan Afzan Maahad Tahfiz founder Datuk Ahmad Irshadi Abdullah Al-Qadri.
All the five will take their oaths as assemblymen before state assembly speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin ahead of the half-day sitting scheduled at 9.30am.
Their presence in the August house will increase the number of state assemblymen from 42 to 47.
In Nov 2020, the Pahang assembly approved a motion to amend the state constitution to appoint five assemblymen without going through the election process.
They can participate in debates and have the right to vote but are not eligible to be elected as menteri besar or state executive council members.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, who tabled the motion to appoint the five assemblyman passed by a majority vote on May 13 this year, said they will help serve the people across Pahang better.
