SHAH ALAM: The government does not intend to impose any restrictions or regulatory frameworks on podcast content creators, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
He said should there be any content that raises issues, the authorities can take any appropriate action in accordance with existing laws.
"Although, as users, we may feel there is an overabundance of content, naturally due to market forces, people will listen to content they are interested in.
"So, for now, we will proceed without intervention, and I do not see this as a problem.
"We do not intend to add (restrictions or regulatory frameworks on podcast content creators) to the current regulations, which is deemed sufficient," he told reporters at a press conference after launching Astro Radio's KITAfm and SYOK Creators Fund here.
The SYOK Creators Fund, an initiative by Astro Radio and SYOK, aims to support and encourage new talent in podcasting.
With RM20,000 in funding, it offers podcasters the chance to create high-quality and impactful audio content.
Fahmi added that the government will also look into assisting those who are interested in creating podcasts.
"I believe we need to nurture this. The government may have some facilities we can provide to assist those interested in creating content. For example, we have the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR), and I will look into programmes that we can offer.
"Previously, through IPPTAR, we collaborated on a programme with Sofian, a video editor.
"So, we might be able to discuss the possibility of inviting those from the SYOK Creators Fund to help develop modules for IPPTAR and teach the public," he said.
