KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and China will enhance cooperation to combat transnational crime through joint efforts and shared intelligence, said the Home Ministry.
In a statement, the Home Ministry said this follows a bilateral meeting between Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and China Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong at the sidelines of the 2024 Global Security Forum in Lianyungang City.
"Among the initiatives discussed was the establishment of a specialised task force to tackle the issue of illegal online gambling, where both nations will collaborate to draft laws, enhance enforcement capabilities and improve cross-border cooperation.
"Another initiative discussed was the implementation of a global mechanism combining High-Definition Facial Recognition and the latest closed-circuit television (CCTV) technology to strengthen public security," it said.
The Home Ministry added that both nations had also agreed to strengthen cooperation in efforts to enhance public safety by improving information exchange and implementing more effective control measures to prevent and address threats related to terrorism.
"This bilateral discussion underscored the commitment of both countries to strengthening cooperation on public security issues and reflected the ongoing dedication of Malaysia and China to working together in addressing shared security challenges and promoting regional stability," it said.
