[UPDATED] PM urges police to expedite probe into GISB Holdings following raids

KAJANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for the police not to delay their probe into GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB).

Anwar said it was important to do a thorough investigation as the issue of akidah (faith), abuse of power, abuse of religion and child abuse were matters of serious accusations.

"Let the police conduct investigations and take action according to the law, and let the religious councils, as well as the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and in the Federal Territories, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) which have the strength in investigation, research education and advisory.

"There are proper channels. Do not delay the investigation if it's true. It's best to investigate thoroughly in the issue of akidah, and child abuse are serious claims," he said after attending Friday prayers at Masjid Al-Iman Desa Putra, Kajang, here, today (Sept 13).

Commenting on the delay in taking action, he said he had instructed the relevant bodies to take action and expedite their investigations and reports.

Earlier today (Sept 13), Jakim said it was not responsible for law enforcement involving GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Jakim's Religious Service Personnel Association (PKPU) president Colonel Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail said Jakim, as a federal religious agency under the Prime Minister's Department, coordinates Islamic affairs but has no enforcement powers.

Meanwhile, Jais said it was continuously monitoring the activities of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd members due to their links with the Al-Arqam and Rufaqa' groups.

On Sept 11, police rescued 402 children from 20 homes connected to GISB during a raid, leading to 171 arrests.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the victims, who were locals, had endured various forms of exploitation and abuse including being sodomised.

Yesterday (Sept 12), it was revealed that the 402 children rescued during a police raid on 20 welfare homes yesterday are believed to be the children of members of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Police also received information that they were also taught the act of sodomy and forced to sodomise other children in the home.

GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd has since denied the allegations and threatened legal action against those who defame the company.
