IGP denies delay in GISB investigation

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have denied that they were late to take action over reports lodged against GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain rubbished these claims, saying police have been investigating the allegations since 2011.

"We only began making arrests after receiving credible leads which enabled us to take such action.

"Since 2011 until now, we have received 41 police reports," he told reporters on Friday.

He said they did not react late but were compiling information, adding that not all the information received could be used as evidence.

It was reported that police raided 20 welfare homes linked to the company early Wednesday morning.

Razarudin had confirmed that the homes raided were linked to the Global Ikhwan Group.

It was reported that police investigations into some of the welfare homes raided earlier have led to claims of sodomy and abuse against children.

Based on intelligence gathered, police found that some victims were sodomised by their caregivers.

Police also received information that they were also taught the act of sodomy and forced to sodomise other children in the homes.

On Sept 11, police rescued 402 children from 20 homes connected to GISB, leading to 171 arrests.

GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd has since denied the allegations and any connection to the case.
