Penang Muslim League to hold 25th Maulidur Rasul procession

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Muslim League and its 30 affiliates will organise the 25th Maulidur Rasul procession.

The silver jubilee of the procession also marks the league's 70th anniversary.

Penang Muslim League president Datuk Seri Najmudeen Kader said the first procession was officiated by then deputy prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

He said over the years, 3,000 to 6,000 participants had taken part in the yearly procession that starts at Masjid Kapitan Keling, then to Komtar and back.

He said almost 30 contingents would participate in this year's procession, comprising Muslim non-governmental organisations, companies, mosques, surau and housing groups.

"The public is invited to join the Penang Muslim League or mosque or surau contingents. It is a procession for Prophet Muhammad's birthday. His teachings are universal and his way of life is exemplary."

Najmudeen said the Penang Muslim League, its affiliates and the Masjid Kapitan Keling qariah welcomed Muslims to join the procession.

"We thank the Penang government for its cooperation, the Penang Islamic Affairs Department for its sponsorship and Nasi Kandar restaurants for their support."
