PM: Halal industry must reach all levels of society [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed the government's desire to see the halal industry reach every layer of society and expand its ecosystem.

He noted that, in the past, the Islamic economy was primarily represented by financial institutions, which he believed only covered certain segments of society, particularly those involved in the sector.

"Through the halal industry, we can address a gap that the general public was unable to master in the financial sector.

"The halal industry goes beyond the usual groups of traders, businessmen, or elites, reaching a broader community. It encompasses everyone, from farmers and fishermen to small and medium enterprises, small traders, and even small retail shops, allowing for wider participation," Anwar said in his opening remarks at the 20th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas) 2024.

He added, to achieve the objectives of the Madani economy and Maqasid al-Shariah, the halal industry must engage with all parts of society.

He also expressed his satisfaction with the participation of delegates from 66 countries, which provides significant economic potential and benefits to Malaysians.

Anwar emphasised that the halal industry covers the interests all Malaysians, without any discrimination.

"Muslims, Christians, Hindus, and Buddhists all participate in the halal industry, in ensuring its success," he said.
