ALOR STAR: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency wants the public and maritime community in Kedah to be alert to weather forecasts before starting any coastal or sea activities.
Kuala Kedah Maritime Zone director Maritime Commander Noor Azreyanti Ishak advised the maritime community to monitor sea conditions and heed weather warnings to safeguard lives and property.
"We urge all parties especially small boat fishermen, tour boat operators, and passengers planning sea activities to ensure their safety by wearing life jackets, that the boat is in good condition, and to carry a Personal Locator Beacon to facilitate and speed up search-and-rescue operations.
"Tour boat operators should follow all maritime rules and regulations, such as adhering to the maximum passenger capacity and ensuring sufficient life jackets are available," she said in a statement today.
